About the artwork: The artwork was developed in consultation with members of the Wirrway Mirrim group. It represents the diversity of these Indigenous researchers coming together to meet in a group. Possum skin cloaks are worn in the logo as a strong cultural symbol for many Victorian Koori communities. Early depictions of Koori people drawn by Koori people are rare, so William Barak’s drawings of styles of possum skin cloak wearing were a basis for this logo. Wirray Mirrim was conceived and meets on the traditional lands of the Kulin people, so it seemed obvious to reflect and pay our respects to an iconic artist of this nation.
